
The C+J 2025 Symposium organizers are pleased to announce the first keynote speaker will be a “pioneering figure in Central Europe when it comes to Data Journalism:” Attila Bátorfy. Atilla is a master teacher of journalism, media studies and information graphics at the Media Department at Eötvös Loránd University located in “data journalism superpower*” Hungary. The Computation + Journalism (C+J) 2025 Symposium is a space for anyone working at, or curious about, the intersections of computation and journalism. This includes practicing journalists, independent data storytellers, computational social scientist, artists, digital humanities scholars, cartographers, and others.
Keynote Speaker | Atilla Bátorfy
Attila Bátorfy is a data journalist, media scholar, and professor of journalism and information design at the Department of Media and Communication Studies at Eötvös Loránd University Budapest. Before his academic career, he worked as a journalist for nearly fifteen years. He was previously the head of data at Átlátszó, Hungary’s first investigative journalism outlet. In 2018 he founded with Átlátszó the visual journalism project Átló. He has received numerous awards for his journalistic work. He has published several articles on the authoritarian tendencies and transformation of the Hungarian media system and journalism over the past decade.
